The unadorned human eye, as opposed to the wedjat-eye occurs in the Late Period, when multiple examples are the norm. This example, in dark blue glazed faience takes the form of a convex disc, its top surface on both sides covered with four relief eyes arranged in columns. The function of an eye amulet, reinforced by multiple forms, was the provision of sight in the Other World.
Condition: The amulet is intact and in excellent condition overall.

Provenance: Private Maryland collection of a diplomat, acquired while serving in Egypt between 1949 and 1956, and then by descent.
