A Roman Architectural fragment, ca 1st century AD

This fragment of marble architecture appears to be a section of cornice from the top of a wall or just below a roof.  The white marble with attractive blue-gray and pink mineral impurities has a smooth straight back, the front is also smooth and carved into horizontal grooves so that the piece tapers from wide to narrow top to bottom.  The sides of the piece are rough with visible tool scratches.

Condition: Fragment as described, peice intact and in very good condition, custom mounted

Dimensions: height 3.5 inches (8.89 centimeters) length 6 inches (15.24 centimeters)

Provenance:    Private collection of a diplomat, Maryland USA, acquired when stationed overseas in the late 1950's.
