A Roman Candlestick Ungentarium ca. 2nd century AD

dark green glass round bodied unguentarium; tall slender neck, flared rim folded up and flattened. Good iridescence, with deposits to one side, concave base.

Condition:  Surface pitting, intact and in very good condition overall with no chips, cracks or breaks. With remaining deposits and excellent iridescence in areas.

Dimensions: Height: 14.7 cm (5 6/8 in), Base: 5.6 cm (2 1/4 in).

Provenance: Paul Ilton Private Collection, acquired prior to 1958.
