Comprising of a hollow bronze cylinder terminating in a lion's head protome, the snarling face rendered naturalistically with fangs bared, framed by the stylized mane. The rim pierced for suspension or attachment.
Zoomorphic whetstone handles have been seen in antiquity going back to the 11th Century BC. They vary widely in form and style, ranging from naturalistic depictions to stylized renderings of many different animals.
