A Tumaco/La Tolita Standing Creature, Ecuador, ca 300 BC/AD

terracotta, standing on two legs with tail support, nude with penis exposed feline head with pointed ears and barbed mouth. Hands up in grimice stance. Some remains of red dots on surface. 

La Tolita towns dwelled between the year 350 B.C. and 350 A.C., in the North Cost of Ecuador along Esmeraldas province.   The culture is well known for its figurines which were made from light grey clay. 

Dimensions:  Height: 18.41 cm (7.25 inches) from head to tail.

Condition:   Complete, tail and left arm professionally rejoined, cracks to the circular opening at the top of the head, loss to fingers on both hands - all minor issues that do not detract from the overall objects.  

Provenance:   S. Bono private collection, acquired from the NY trade in 2002 and previously in a Long Island, NY collection.
