A Hittite Black Glazed Clay Jug, ca 2nd millennium BC

the round body with incised zigzag motif, wide shoulder and large flaring mouth with protruding pouring spout.

Condition:  Applied handle now missing, minor chips to rim otherwise intact and in very good condition overall.  An interesting piece that is seldom found.

Dimensions:  Height:  2 3/4 inches (7 cm) 

Provenance: Forming part of the James Stephan Snr. collection, assembled in the late 1960's and then by descent.  Dr. Stephan was an archaeologist excavating in the Anatolian region of Turkey and during this time he assembled his collection from dealers and villagers throughout this area.
