A large Mesopotamian Terracotta Vessel, ca. 3,000 BC

of natural buff color pottery, this large round jug has a wide neck and flaring rim, two wavy scalloped handles protrude from the middle of either side of the body, three deeply incised lines to the shoulder.   

Condition: A large crack down one side of the jug that has been stabilized, small chip from the rim, handles are worn from visible use, mineral deposits within pores of the ceramic, jug is otherwise intact and in good condition overall. 

Dimensions:  Height: 27 cm (10.6 inches), Diameter at widest area: 28 cm (11 inches)

Provenance: Private collection of a diplomat, Washington, D.C. acquired in the late 1950's.
