An Egyptian Marvered Glass Chess Piece, Fatamid dynasty, 10th-12th century

a domed form of black and white striated glass pawn, marvered and tooled to shape.  Similar examples of chess pieces can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Islamic collection, for example, accession number  1972.9.3. and a pawn at the Freer Gallery, Smithsonian Institution/Bridgeman Art Library, image number: FSG325052.  

Condition: Once a part of a set of many, this piece is has a small chip to the top but is otherwise intact and in very good condition overall. 

Dimensions: Height .7 inches (1.8 cm, Width .74 inches (1.9 cm)

Provenance:  Paul Ilton private collection, acquired prior to 1958.
