A Persian Openwork Bronze Applique, Achaemenid Period, ca. 550 - 332 BC

Openwork, with roughly rectangular frame upon which is superimposed the figure of a horse, with broad chest and low relief curled mane, directed right.  The top of the frame follows the outline of the horses' mane.  

Condition:  The applique is intact and in excellent condition overall featuring a smooth, green/brown patina.  Custom mounted on metal base as shown.

Provenance:   Carolyn and Walter Foxworth collection, acquired 1960s - 70s.  Carolyn Foxworth was the Christies representative in Dallas for many years before finally retiring and focusing on her family and the art collection she and her husband, Walter built over three decades. Carolyn was generous in lending her art to institutions for exhibitions and publications.
