A Near Eastern Lapis Bead, set as a pendant, ca. 1st millennium BCE

L1910

For the ancients, lapis lazuli was the most highly prized and sought after of all crystals.  With its deep, celestial blue, it remains the symbol of royalty and honor, gods and power, spirit and vision. It is a universal symbol of wisdom and truth.  For the Egyptians, the principal word for this stone was used as a synonym for 'joy' and 'delight'.  Originating mined in Afghanistan over 2500 years ago, this superb example has been hand carved and finished a triangular style.

Lapis Lazuli is a crystal of truth in all aspects. It reveals an inner truth and promotes self-awareness and the acceptance of that knowledge. It provides for the relief of things that may have been suppressed and allows for them to surface, helping to diminish disease or repressed anger, and allows for self-expression without holding back or compromising.

Set as a pendant on a 20" sterling silver chain.

Condition:  Expected signs of wear that do not detract, intact and in very good condition overall.  A lovely example.

Provenance:  Private English collection, acquired in the 1960s and then by descent.
