An East Greek Pottery Lydion, ca mid 6th century B.C.

The ovoid body on a tall flaring foot, the wide cylindrical neck with a flat disk rim, the body with a broad band, the foot, neck and mouth in brown.

Dimensions:  height: 11.5 cm (4.52 inches), diameter at widest point: 7 cm (2.75 inches)

Condition:  Heavy deposits where the vessel rested on it's side, root marking and deposits to the interior, minor chips to the body and some loss of glaze, otherwise intact and in good condition overall.

Provenance:  Forming part of the James Stephan Snr. collection, assembled in the 1950's to early 1960's and then by descent.  Dr. Stephan was a US intelligence officer who also held a degree in archaeology.  He was posted in the Anatolian region of Turkey with the US government during this time, and acquired his collection from dealers and villagers throughout the region.
