An Apulian Gnathian ware Skyphos, ca. 4th century BC

of fine red clay, thin-walled and finished in a lavish black slip glaze with exquisitely painted grape tendrils and ivy in white, ochre, and burnt umber that stretches across the expanse of the bowl, twin handles on flaring pedestal foot, the rim decorated in added cream slip.

Condition: Intact and in very good condition overall. A very fine example.

Provenance: Ex. private Arizona collection, acquired in the 1960's and then by descent.
