A Greek Illyrian Bronze Helmet, circa 6th century BC

An excellent domed helmet with beautiful patina and long cheekpieces with a short flange, two raised ridges running over the crown, the helmet perimeter with an ornate border of decorative punched circles, attachment hook at center back. The incised quidelines were for decorative attachments of horsehair or feathered plumes.

Condition:   Professionally stabilized, a small restored hole near the top of the helmet, otherwise, intact and in excellent condition overall with fine green/brown patina.

Provenanceex Axel Guttmann Collection (1944-2001), Berlin, Germany, acquired in Switzerland in the late 1980's.
