An Egyptian Wood Figure of a Cat, New Kingdom, ca 1550-1069 BC

elegantly proportioned and with naturalistic details, depicted seated upright with alert expression, its forepaws together,  the head with erect ears, with deep set almond-shaped eyes, the bridge of the nose ridged, the nostrils and mouth indented.

Dimensions:  Height: 10.8 cm (4 1/4 inches)

Condition:  Loss of one ear, surface wear and pitting, particularly down the back, otherwise intact and in good condition overall.  Custom mounted on black wood base.

Provenance:  from a prominent Philadelphia collection, with early  Blanchard's Egyptian Museum label on base.
