* An Egyptian Wood Side Panel from a Sarcophagus for the Priestess Het-epher, Middle Kingdom, ca 2134 - 1778 BC

inscribed for the Priestess “Het-epher”,  with an inscription that reads from left to right:

“May a royal offering be given to Osiris, Lord of Bubos, great god, Lord of Abydos in all his places.  May offerings of beer, bread, oxen and fowl be given to the venerated one.
Words spoken by the great god Re:  I have given you the strength of Horus, lord of the west, on your right side, O venerated one Hetepher.”

Dimensions:  Length:  71 inches (180 cm)  Height:  17 inches  (43.5 cm)

Condition:  Complete, comprising approximately seven pieces, reassembled with wood inserts where required.   An impressive example.

Provenance:  Private California collection, acquired in Egypt in the mid-1960s and then by descent, thereafter private Kentucky collection, acquired in the early 2000s; private Maryland collection until 2014; estate of Peter Borromeo, Jnr 2015 - 2018.  A side panel for Hetepher, from the same coffin, is located in the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
