An Egyptian veined alabaster ovoid Alabastron, Ptolemaic Period, ca.332 - 30 BC

a beautifully banded rounded jar, the rare form of creamy alabaster the body tapering to a rounded base, the external walls polished to a smooth finish using wet sand, with three looped handles around the upper part of the body and a separately made flared lip.

Dimensions:  Height: Maximum: 11 x 5 13/16 in. (28 x 14.8 cm)

Condition:  Loss to one handle, otherwise intact and in very good condition overall

Provenance:  Private NY collection, acquired from Bonhams, London November 25, 1998, lot #288 thereafter on loan to the Michael C. Carlos Museum, Emory University from 1998 - 2015, loan number: L1999.006.001A.
