An Egyptian Faience and Carnelian Bead Bracelet, Late Period, ca. 664 - 332 BC

This pretty little bracelet features cylindrical blue-glazed faience beads with fiery carnelian bead spacers; the colors the Egyptians associated with magical power. The soft warm blues represented new life, rejuvenation, rebirth. The red carnelian, although found in considerable quantities in the Eastern Desert and Nubia, was considered sufficiently precious to be mentioned in lists alongside silver, lapis lazuli and turquoise, and was connected with blood and hence energy, dynamism and power.

Dimensions:  Length: 20.32 cm (8 inches).

Condition:  The bracelet has been restrung, all beads are intact and in very good condition overall.

Provenance:  Private NYC collection, ex. CT collection, ex. John N. Winnie, Jr. collection, Georgia, 1980’s-90’s.
