An Egyptian faience Bead Necklace, New Kingdom, ca 1550-1069 BC

comprising an alternating pattern of black faience disc and bright azure blue cylindrical faience beads, colors Egyptians associated with magical power.  The black beads represented the rich alluvial soil from the Nile floods, essential to grow crops, the bright blue representing new life, rejuvenation, and rebirth.

Condition:  Necklace restrung for wearing, with gold color clasp, some cylindrical beads with very minor chipping that does not detract, overall the beads are intact and in very good condition.

Dimensions:  Length:  17 inches (43 cm)

Provenance:  Private Californian collection, acquired in the 1960's and then by descent.
