An Egyptian Faience & Coral Bead Necklace, Late Period ca 664 -332 BC

A truly lovely necklace comprising cylindrical blue-glazed faience beads with rare red coral bead spacers; the colors the Egyptians associated with magical power.  The black beads represented the rich alluvial soil from the Nile floods, essential to grow crops, the warm blues new life, rejuvenation, rebirth.  The red coral represented power.

Condition: All beads are intact and in excellent condition overall, restrung with modern vermeil gold clasp.  A great gift idea.

Dimensions:  Length: 40.6 cm (16 in).

Provenance:   Private Californian collection, acquired in the 1960's and then by descent.
