This scarab is inscribed with what appears to be a looped rope pattern similar to that of the Egyptian hieroglyph ‘sa’ meaning ‘protection.’ This design could very well be an early, stylized version of the symbol that satisfied the increasing need for support and protection as Egyptian history progressed.
