A large Egyptian Hyskos Scarab, 2IP, Dynasty 15, 1630-1530 BC

Pierced longitudinally for suspension, the scarab is finely carved from steatite, the back incised with suture and pronotum lines, the legs naturalistically carved and lightly incised. Base inscribed with animal figures including an ibex and a crocodile.

Condition:   Intact with crack to the back otherwise in very good condition overall.

Dimensions:  Scarab length: 1 3/8 inch (3.5 cm), Width: 1 inch (2.5 cm) 

Provenance:  Private NY collection, thereafter on loan to the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University, Atlanta, GA, from 1998 - 2015, loan number: L1998.062.094
