A Grey Schist Relief of the Goddess Hariti, Gandhara, ca 3rd century AD

carved in raised relief and backed by a halo, the goddess shown frontally, wearing flowing robes, adorned with a large earrings, necklace with large round pendant indicative of her status, her benign face with heavy-lidded almond-shaped eyes and small full lips, her hair pulled into a chignon and secured with an elaborately decorated flat headdress.

Condition:Although fragmentary and clearly from a larger composition, the head, face and upper torso are intact and in excellent condition overall.     Museum quality custom mount.

Provenance:  Private DC collection, acquired from the NY trade in the late 1950's.
