A Campanian Red Figure Oinochoe, ca. 4th century BC

From the Ancient Greek: οἶνος oînos, "wine" and Ancient Greek: wikt:χέω khéō, "I pour” this wonderful oinochoe displays a red figure scene of a saucy satyr pursuing a nymph. Originally from the Campania area of Southern Italy, such vessels were used to pour the concentrated wine into the large kraters for serving. 

Dimensions:  height:  7 1/2 inches ( 19 cm)

Condition:  Aside from a small repair to the handle, the vessel is completely intact and in truly great condition overall.

Provenance:  Private Canadian collection, acquired from the European trade in 2011 and previously in the private collection of A.D.M. Belgium.
